This conference will specifically provide numerous opportunities for students at all levels. We have K-12, undergraduate, and graduate sessions planned. Students can submit papers/panels to the “student only” sessions or to the general submissions where they will compete with and present with academics and people from all areas of the economic sector. Special mentoring sessions will match students with content and methodology experts to help them pursue their own research or get ideas from the experts for how to approach areas of interest. Student poster sessions offer opportunities for all students to present their research or teaching ideas to conference participants.

If you have a special student project, please contact one of the co-chairs to see if the session needs to be submitted or meets an invited “special category.”

All sessions will be 75 minutes: 60 minutes for presentations and 15 minutes for
audience interaction.

Stories and cultural performances will enrich us. Partner/family day trips are planned, as is a cultural day for all conference participants and families. Those interested in seeing polar bears can either visit the “Journey to Churchill” exhibit at the Winnipeg Zoo in Assiniboine Park, or take a post-study tour north to Churchill, home of both polar bears and 65% of the world’s Beluga whale population. The convention will be held in the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre in the heart of the downtown.

Six hotels within walking distance of ten minutes or less, have guaranteed rooms at special conference prices ranging from $129 CD at The Ault, a new boutique hotel that opened in April 2015, to $169 CD at the Fairmont. We have special student accommodations at the University of Winnipeg residence halls at $73.31.CD.

A complete list of facilities holding rooms and their rates (you will make reservations on your own) is posted on this website. There are other hotels in the area, but the ones on our list have offered special rates and are within, including the University, a short walking distance of the convention centre. Audio-Visual needs are inclusive.

This conference features:

1. Student Opportunities:
   • Student-Only: Students may submit their papers or panels to the student-only sessions where they will not be in competition with faculty or community submissions. (Be sure to note student status.) Students, may, of course, also submit in the general categories.
   • Poster sessions: Students with research in progress, teaching ideas, or completed research projects may submit their work in the poster session category. Those selected will share their work in specific sessions with a 10-minute rotating schedule. We encourage students at all levels to submit their ideas. High School students are also encouraged to qualify.
   • Mentoring sessions: Students should indicate their interest in these sessions and we will match content and methodology experts to help you discover ways to move forward, ways to provide a unique perspective, or, ways to flesh out ideas for your classroom or degree research.
2. Storytellers and Storytelling
   • Featured Storytellers: Give us your ideas based on a captivating story–include an abstract–should be up to a 60-minute presentation followed by interaction with audience questions and answers.
   • Stand-Alone Storytelling Sessions: Send us an abstract for a 15-20-minute story especially those on any aspect of the conference theme. Submit an abstract and the amount of time needed for your story. Stories will be combined so 2-4 storytellers with similar themes present together. Followed by a question and answer session.
