Members of the World Communication Association were warmly welcomed to Biennial meeting of the Pacific Asian Communication Association (PACA), which convened at Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung, Indonesia from June 24-26, 2014. Over 200 participants gave exciting papers and talks on topics related to the conference theme, “Beyond Asia: Communicating Asian Culture to the World.”
On June 24th president of WCA, Dr. Carolyn Calloway-Thomas, and vice president for North America, Dr. Melissa Beall, delivered keynote speeches on “Empathy Matters: The Global Imperative” and “A Lifetime of Opportunities” respectively.
Secretary-General Dr. Young-Ok Lee presented a paper titled “Verbal and Nonverbal Modes of Identity Representation” and past Secretary-General Dr. Carmencita Del Villar delivered a paper on “Correlation between Compliance-gaining Strategies and High-Power Distance Cultural Orientation of Filipinos: Revalidation”.
Dwight Hartfield Wins Myung-Seok Park Award for the Best Overall Conference Presentation
Dr. Dwight R. Harfield of Canada not only delivered two co-authored papers with Melissa Beall, but also received a Family of Myung-Seok Park Award for the Best Overall Conference Presentation based on organizational structure, content, delivery, and other presentational criteria. Kudos to Dwight for winning this prestigious international award. Melissa and Dwight’s coauthored papers centered on “Listening: The Neglected Part of the Communication Process” and “Internal Filters and Intercultural Listening.” Melissa also delivered a paper on “Intercultural Listening: An Asian Perspective.”
