In her dissertation she examines articulations of belonging among Russian speakers in Estonia and Kazakhstan. In particular, she looks at the the ways Russian speakers, in the regions bordering the Russian Federation, develop a sense of place-belonging. Her research interests include place-attachment, minority identification, politics of belonging, integration policies, Russia’s foreign policy, minority policies in Kazakhstan and Estonia.
